THE IMMUNE SYSTEM

면역.jpeg

The immune system is a complex network of interconnected organs, tissues and cells that work together to protect us. Disorders arise when the immune system is overactive (autoimmune diseases), underactive (immune deficiency diseases), or triggers an inappropriate response to foreign substances (asthma, allergies). Medications for disorders of the immune system can have adverse side effects, such as fatigue, digestive issues, headaches, sleep disruptions, and susceptibility to illness.

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) has been used for thousands of years to bring the immune system into balance. According to TCM, energy (qi) flows through our meridians, organs, blood, and all that exists within us. When healthy energy (zheng qi) is balanced and flowing smoothly, it protects us from disease and manages pain. We also require another type of protective energy (wei qi), derived from food and water and dispersed through our body to help us resist disease. We can support our immune system by balancing our internal energies through acupuncture, herbs, and diet.

TCM is now being acknowledged as an effective treatment for many common disorders. For example, a German study examined the effect of 10 acupuncture treatments on patients with mild to moderate Crohn’s disease—an autoimmune condition that involves chronic inflammation of the gastrointestinal tract. Study members showed improvement in general wellbeing and quality of life. Immune-related disorders that may be treated with WS-TCM include:

  • Asthma

  • Seasonal allergies

  • Lupus

  • Type 1 Diabetes

  • Rheumatoid arthritis

  • Ulcerative colitis

  • Crohn’s disease

  • Psoriasis

  • Immune deficiency syndrome

A balanced immune system is necessary for the protection and repair our bodies need. We work with our clients to understand not only their symptoms, but the underlying patterns that may be contributing to an overactive or underactive immune response. Treatment may include acupuncture, herbs, heat therapy, nutrition, guasha and lifestyle counseling, and relief may come within several visits, continuing to build over the course of treatment.

I have several auto immune diseases and after being hospitalized in Sep. 2016 and being diagnosed with a serious liver disease I decided to try oriental medicine. Dr. Jang made me feel very comfortable. Not only did the acupuncture help, but he also provided so many nutrition tips that have helped me tremendously.  After seeing Dr. Jang a few times my liver functions went from being severely elevated to within normal range. He has treated my nausea as well as anxiety and every time I visit I feel so much better!  I give him my highest recommendation.

I was suffering from rheumatoid arthritis in both hands and it was difficult for me to perform my job, which I absolutely love doing. After several cortisone shots and a year of increasing pain, I had lost hope. I started to accept the next 30 years of my life I would have to endure this pain. My college suggested I try acupuncture. I found Dr. Amy Lee by reading other people’s reviews! It has been four weeks and I am completely pain free!! I feel like I have a new lease on Life! I wake up in the morning and don’t even think about my aching.

Dr. Lee is awesome. I went in for allergy treatment. They worked better than anything I had done previously (allergy meds, nettie pots, avoiding the outdoors, row honey). After 4 treatments I have been allergy free and enjoying the evening walks and trips to the park without sneezing and a stuffy head the whole time. I will definitely be back again for my treatment then I can enjoy spring each year allergy free!
